Black and White Photography : A Delaware Wedding Photographer's Perspective

When you think of your eastern shore wedding photography, a mix of timeless, elegant, and candid photos should come to mind. While color photos have their undeniable charm, black and white images hold a timeless allure that can elevate the emotions in your wedding gallery. As a Delaware wedding photographer, I’ve learned from the best photographers how black and white photos bring depth, emotion, and a classic feel to your wedding memories. This is a reason that I shy away from editing trends.

Black and White Photography Is Perfect for Your Wedding

because it captures emotion. Your wedding day will be filled with moments of pure emotion—from the first look to the first dance. Black and white photography allows those emotions to shine through without the distraction of color. Whether it’s the joy in your eyes as you walk down the aisle or the loving gaze from your partner, black and white images capture those raw, unfiltered moments, highlighting every expression and connection.

You will spend time curating details big and small of your wedding to reflect your unique style, but years down the road, trends will change. What won’t change? The timeless elegance of black and white photography. These images have a classic quality that will never go out of style, giving you a gallery that feels just as beautiful decades later as it does today.

Your wedding gallery should tell the full story of your special day, filled with moments that capture every feeling, in both vibrant color and timeless black and white. These two styles complement each other perfectly, adding balance to your gallery. Colorful images highlight the lively, festive elements of your wedding, while black and white photos bring a deeper, more emotional tone to the quieter, intimate moments. For instance, while your stunning bouquet is best captured in color, that tender moment between you and your partner during your vows could be even more powerful in black and white.

Black and white photos are more than removing the color from an image; I carefully select shots that evoke the most emotion, focusing on lighting, composition, and the natural connection between you and your loved ones. It’s often the candid, heartfelt moments—like your mom fluffing your train for the first time or your husband helping you into your dad's car that are most stunning in black and white.

The Vandiver Inn, hosted an amazing day for this couple which included the best day of coordinator that I have worked with. When they say that they provide an excellent experience it is a true statement. One of the biggest conveniences was being able to rent the entire house as well as the house next door for their family and friends to spend the weekend together. The reception space has a beautiful white 3,000 square foot that is amazing year round (heat/AC.) which allows for guest tables as well as a dance floor. The waterfront was minutes away where we were able to take dad's antique car for formal wedding portraits.
