The number one rule: choose a place for your engagement photos where you will feel comfortable! Your Alma mater is a great place for your engagement photos. You are familiar with the location and will feel at ease. You have wonderful stories to reminisce on and keep you laughing. There are locations that are super meaningful to your love story. The bridge from the freshman parking lot to the sports complex was where Liz and John would talk about adjusting to college life.
John's Rehoboth Beach, Delaware proposal was photographed during their family beach vacation. (See their marriage proposal here.) I was honored when they contacted me regarding their wedding day photography coverage. Shannon Ritter Photography's full day wedding photography packages include an engagement session. Prior to booking, we meet over dinner or coffee and dessert, to discuss your big day, what you are looking forward to most, and your photography needs. During our consultation, we'll talk about your love story, and I'll encourage you to select a location for your engagement session that helps tell your love story.
So much of their love story took place here. As we walked around the campus, it was obvious that this couple felt at ease. They were able to chat about all of the memories they made together in college and there were even spots where they had photos taken before!
Do you have to do your engagement photos at your Alma mater? Absolutely not. One thing I love about the wedding industry is that you make the rules! I encourage you to choose a location that is meaningful to you two. Couples choose coffee shops, movie theaters, mountain tops, breweries, their new home, gardens and tattoo parlors. (No, I haven't photographed an engagement session at a tattoo parlor yet, but I am READY!)
